NACDI Now is a new event series from the North American Cultural Diplomacy Initiatives. The series sets up conversations between researchers and practitioners aiming to highlight new and innovative work in the field. This inaugural session brings together two distinguished voices for a conversation on queer diplomacies. This online event will feature Dr. Douglas Victor Janoff, author of Queer Diplomacy: Homophobia, International Relations and LGBT Human Rights (Palgrave Macmillan 2022) and Pink Blood: Homophobic Violence in Canada (University of Toronto Press, 2005). Dr. Janoff will share their work on multilateral LGBT human rights diplomacy, as well as insights from their work as a practitioner. They will be joined by NACDI member Dr. Eduardo Tadeo Hernández, an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Culture at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Unidad Xochimilco who will share his new research project addressing queer diplomacies. The dialogue will be moderated by NACDI co-founder Dr. Sarah E.K. Smith, Canada Research Chair in Art, Culture and Global Relations at Western University.
The conversation will offer insights from new research and practice, while also allowing space for audience discussion in an aim to open up a new space for dialogue on queer diplomacy.
