Erdogan-O’Connor’s  presentation, “Local-Global Engagements of Museums: The Case of the Royal Ontario Museum,” discusses the potentials and challenges of contemporary museum practice in fostering local-global connections. It draws on the findings of her 2019 Mitacs-funded research, which surveyed the global activities of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Making use of archival and interview findings, this case study identifies the challenges and potentials of the local-global activities of museums, including perceptions of these activities. More broadly, this research serves to demonstrate how museums foster local-global connections through their everyday activities. Erdogan-O’Connor will present as part of the panel entitled “Challenging Borders in Cultural Landscapes” for which she is also co-chair.
