NACDI is pleased to share the upcoming Global Engagement in Museums webinar, part of ICOM Canada’s new five-part Shaping Museums for a Connected World series. This initiative aligns with NACDI’s research on museums’ global work — examining how cultural institutions engage internationally, foster cross-border collaboration, and contribute to cultural diplomacy and global understanding.

Co-curated by NACDI co-founder Sascha Priewe and NACDI member Simge Erdogan-O’Connor, the series brings together museum professionals and scholars from across Canada and beyond to explore the global dimensions of museum practice. Open to ICOM and non-ICOM members worldwide, it offers practical tools, conceptual frameworks, and real examples for strengthening international collaboration, building global networks, and advancing inclusive and impactful museum work in an increasingly interconnected world.

Session 1: Global Engagement in Museums
Monday, January 26, 2026 | 1:00 PM EST / 10:00 AM PST | Online

The first session in the series sets the stage for a deeper exploration of global engagement. Through big-picture insights and grounded examples, panelists will discuss what global engagement in museums means today, how institutions of all sizes can build meaningful international connections, and what global work looks like in practice.

Featured panellists include:
• Dr. Sarah E.K. Smith, Canada Research Chair in Arts, Culture and Global Relations, Western University
• Dr. Sascha Priewe, President of ICOM Canada and Director of Collections & Programs, Aga Khan Museum; NACDI co-founder
• Dr. Simge Erdogan-O’Connor, Director, Canadian Museum of Health Care; Course Director, Ontario Museum Association Certificate in Museum Studies; NACDI member

This session will be of interest to museum professionals, academics, cultural practitioners, and anyone engaged with international museum work, cultural diplomacy, or the global dimensions of heritage practice.
