Cultural Diplomacy for Ontario: New Horizons

Published in OpenCanada, this article explores how the province of Ontario—despite not having a formal cultural diplomacy strategy—already plays a powerful role in global cultural engagement. From world-class creative industries to sports-driven international outreach, Ontario has the assets.

The article reports on the event, “Cultural Diplomacy for Ontario: New Horizons,” convened by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontarion on 16 September 2025, which featured panellists Ige Egal (CEO, Play for Dignity), Sarah E.K. Smith (Western University) and Karen Thorne-Stone (President & CEO, Ontario Creates). 

It was organized and moderated by Sascha Priewe (Director of Collections & Public Programs, Aga Khan Museum), in partnership with the Canadian International Council, the Aga Khan Museum, Western University and the North American Cultural Diplomacy Initiative (NACDI).
